r134a is the answer r12 was phased out in the early 90's. see a serviceman. if someone says to try the at home, new r12a, please note that this gases are NOT compatible and the instuctions for the new gas have you going to a service man to empty the system of r134a before you fill with the new gas. yes it is cheaper, but you cannot see a serviceman again. this gas will contaminate a 5000$ machine, and because of this, service men have had to buy a gas anylizer. they will refuse to touch/repair your system if that gas is detected. please note all these gasses are flamable

In an effort to avoid use of ozone-depleting CFC refrigerants, Kia Motor Company has introduced a new refrigerant system for this vehicle. This system uses non CFC-based refrigerant R-134a

Hi

Most likely the older R12 gas. This was later replaced by R134A. This too will soon be replaced in a couple of years as for something less harsh on the Ozone layer!
