Re: What is a better first car, Mazda 6 or a volvo c30. For someone that's turning

For someone that's turning 16, a Mazda 3 would be an ideal car.

The 6 and the Volvo C30 are for a more seasoned driver IMO. Plus there's always the cost of insurance,

But, hey, if money's no object...the C30.

First understand that the R model has the same engine (227 hp, 236 lb-ft of torque). The suspension, wheels, and tires on the R model are upgrades, so from a safety standpoint it's actually a better choice.

As to the Mazda v the Volvo, curiously enough the Mazda 6 is a bigger car than the Volvo (except in width). That's because the Mazda 3 and the Volvo C30 are built on the same chassis (along with the European Ford Focus). They have identical wheelbase. The Mazda 6 is the basis for the Ford Fusion and Taurus.

It boils down to what you want and can afford.

The Mazda 6 sedan starts out at $23,275 for a mid-level four cylinder (170 hp and 167 lb-ft), $24,800 for the base V6 (272, 269).

The C30 starts at $24,626 and the R starts at $26,775.

Both Volvo's prices start to climb fast when you add options, while a Mazda 6 4 cyl Touring with the two big packages is still under $27,000 on the sticker.

Volvos are known for their safety, so don't be concerned that it's a smaller car or that it's "sportier."

Get what you want. Then you'll keep it longer and that way it costs you less. (The longer you keep a car, the less it costs.)

Good luck and good motoring!

You also should compare car insurance quotes for different cars before buying one, for example here - autoinsurance.hotusa.org

Of course the C30. Despite being a Volvo, it is younger than that the Mazda 6 because the Mazda is a family sedan meant to carry kids to soccer practice. Plus Edward Cullen drove a C30 in the Twilight movie!

Volvo C30

Easier to park, slightly safer, less common.
