Why do I have knocking & pinging in my 1999 Pontiac GrandAm car while full of oil.

Mileage just crossed over 200,000 a couple days ago and I have kept the oil changed regularly with the occasional flush. I'm curious if the whole engine is shot or if it might be simpler like a oil pump even though I never get a low oil light. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks everyone!

Pontiac require high grade fuel (after getting high in mileage). I have the same problem with my Pontiac Fiero. Just put in the highest grade gas and it will go away. You might want to stick a K&N air filter on it as well.

check the timing, u may have a worn timing belt or chain depending on what engine you have, this will cause a knock or ping, and give it a good tune up if you havent done one it a while.

Knocking is likely cause of a corroded spark plug, a bad spark plug wire, or even a bad distributor cap, but the oil sounds like a bad ground wire, depending really when your last oil change was...

Knocking and pinging have nothing to do with the oil. Its an octane issue in the gas you are using. Use higher octane gas and the knocking and pinging should go away.
