Does the 2007 Subaru Legacy 2.5i non turbo have a good engine sound? Is it loud? And is there an exhaust system that makes it sound like a WRX?

I drove an '07 2.5i recently and it has a very nice engine sound. It's unmistakably a Subaru boxer engine sound--which means a bit fluffy and agricultural from the outside, but rich and quiet from the inside. The sound can be made louder with an aftermarket exhaust system, although I wouldn't want one.

I drive a '96 Legacy (which sounds very similar) and I find the engine sound very pleasing. Compared to inline fours, the sound is mellower and it doesn't "drone" when revved. It's rough at idle when in gear (common in older automatic Subarus) but notably smooth in the midrange; newer Subaru engines are smooth all-around.

I just have to laugh at some of the answers on here, they crack me up.

Well, it's a pretty quiet motor, most cars are from the factory. Another answer says there is 2 exhausts??? There is one exhaust system that "Y's" off into 2 mufflers. They do make aftermarket exhaust for the Legacy, and almost any kind will sound very nice, it's a Subaru boxer motor!

It's loud if you turn the volume up to about 5,000 rpm and it can take it. You sound like you are just getting on the power in a small Formula Ford or something, but then you have to shift. I had that engine in a 2006 Outback and compared to the full and throaty, sweet "mwahhhh" sound of the 3.0-6, the 2.5i-4 is kind of boring.

Compared to WRX and impreza Legacy has a better engine sound. Legacy is brought to the next level when the automaker introduced it to boxer engine, which is actually more powerful. On top of the line it is now Subaru's flagship model. It comes in either a station wagon or a 4-door sedan.
